There are various approaches to cataract surgery, each employing distinct methods and specialised tools. These are the primary types:

Phacoemulsification (Phaco)

Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE)

Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery

This type of surgery is very commonly performed.

PROCEDURE

a.     Perform a delicate incision in the cornea.

b.     Remove the fragments through the probe.

c.     Replace the natural lens with an intraocular lens (IOL).

This technique is commonly employed for more severe cases of cataracts, where the lens is too dense to be fragmented using ultrasound. PROCEDURE

a. Perform a more extensive cut in the cornea.

b. Perform a precise extraction of the central part of the lens intact.

c. Remove the remaining soft lens material with precision.

d. Perform a surgical procedure to implant an intraocular lens (IOL) into the eye.

This technique enhances traditional cataract surgery with laser precision.

PROCEDURE

a.     A femtosecond laser is used to make the corneal incision.

b.     Softening the lens with laser energy, which makes it easier to remove.

c.     Potentially improving the accuracy of the placement of the IOL.

Different types of IOLs are available, including monofocal, multifocal, accommodating, and toric lenses. Each type has its advantages and is chosen based on the patient’s specific needs. To understand what suits your needs, kindly book a free consultation now.
